Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer are expected to reunite for the sequel to one of the most beloved films of the past few years.

According to Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino, the actors have signed on to reprise their roles in the long-rumored sequel. Guadagnino confirmed the news in a recent interview with Italian publication la Repubblica. The filmmaker revealed the sequel was already in development, but has since been put on pause in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Before coronavirus, I made a trip to the United States to meet a screenwriter I love very much, whose name I don’t want to say, to talk about the second part. Unfortunately, we had to put it on hold," he said, before confirming other stars who will return for the follow-up. "Of course, it was a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Esther Garrel and the other actors. Everyone will be in the new movie."

Based on a novel by André Aciman, Call My by Your Name tells the story of 17-year-old Elio Perlman (Chalamet) and 24-year-old doctorate student Oliver (Hammer), who develop a romance in 1980s Italy. The film went on to receive critical acclaim and number of accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Guadagnino did not reveal any details about the sequel, but many suspect it will be based on Aciman's 2019 novel sequel Find Me.

Per the book's official website:

Hammer first confirmed that a sequel was in the works way back in 2018.
