Anticipation for Todd Phillip’s standalone Joker flick is getting higher and higher.
Just a day after we received our first look at Joaquin Phoenix in creepy Joker makeup, footage from the film’s set has made its way online. The clip shows Phoenix dressed as the Clown Prince of Chaos, as he steps off a subway train surrounded by terrorized people.
Phoenix is rocking a red suit, green hair, and a generic clown mask that he eventually takes off as he walks away from the subway. You’ll also notice that the scene features several civilians donning clown masks similar to the one Joker was wearing; but judging by their startled reactions to the chaos, it’s safe to assume these disguised individuals aren’t the Joker’s henchmen.

Baldwin joins a star-studded cast that already includes Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Marc Maron in the stand-alone film about the DC Comics villain Joker.
In a July interview with Comicbook.com, Phoenix spoke about portraying the iconic villain, and how he considered the role several years ago.
“Three or four years ago, I called my agent and said ‘Why don’t they want to take one of these characters and just make a lower budget film about it, a movie but a character study, and why not take one of the villains?” the actor explained. “And I thought, ‘You can’t do the Joker, because, you know, it’s just you can’t do that character, it’s just been done.’ So I was trying to think of other characters, and he said ‘I’ll set up a general meeting with Warner Bros.’ And I said ‘I’m not gonna go, I can’t go to a general meeting.’ So I completely forgot about it, and so then I heard about this idea, I was like, ‘Oh that’s so exciting, that’s the kind of experience I wanted to have, with a movie based on a comic character.’ I felt like you could get something on screen.”
Phillip's Joker film will hit theaters Oct. 4, 2019.
