Toy Story 4 has just surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, pushing Disney past another record. As Variety reports, the movie has made it so Disney has amassed five $1 billion-grossing films in 2019 so far, and that's not including the Sony-produced Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Toy Story 4 has grossed $1.001 billion in worldwide ticket sales, while just ahead is Aladdin with $1.03 billion. Captain Marvel made $1.12 billion, The Lion King has earned $1.34 billion, and Avengers: Endgame did $2.79 billion to become the biggest movie of all time.
Toy Story 4 is the fourth Pixar movie to ever push past the $1 billion mark. The record number of $1 billion-grossing movies in a single year was previously set by Disney in 2016.
Of course, the company has a number of heavy-hitters still on the way for 2019. Frozen 2, Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, and a sequel to Maleficent will all arrive before the end of year. The original Frozen grossed a total of $1.27 billion worldwide, while both The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens easily surpassed the milestone following their release.
Toy Story 4 delivered one of the biggest domestic opening weekends for an animated film when it debuted on June 21, bringing in an impressive $120 million. The previous entry in the series also fared incredibly well for Disney, once again inching past the billion dollar point.
