MTV's classic claymation series Celebrity Deathmatch is, like almost everything else in existence, getting the reboot treatment. Development on a reboot of the series is currently underway at MTV Studios, reports Deadline, and it's already managed to found one of its stars in the form of Ice Cube.

The new series of Celebrity Deathmatch will see the series creator Eric Fogel return as executive producer, while the showrunners and other stars of the show have yet to be announced. Ice Cube will also serve as an executive producer with his partner Jeff Kwatinetz through the Cube Vision production company.

MTV studios is planning on shopping the series around to premium and streaming channels in the new year, opting not to air the show on MTV itself at the current time, although that could very well change as the series reaches its production. The reboot is part of an effort from MTV's newly formed MTV Studios branch, which launched earlier this year, to reimagine their existing intellectual proprieties. Earlier this year, MTV Studios announced a reboot of Daria among other shows.

“Happy to once again be working with Viacom and MTV on a fan favorite like Celebrity Deathmatch and to continue our success together,” said Ice Cube upon announcing the show. The original series ran from 1998 until 2002, airing a total of 75 episodes.

“We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite,” said MTV, VH1, and CMT president Chris McCarthy. “Deathmatch was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs–in the wrestling ring.”
