Last year Frederick Joseph of New York City helped raise over $50,000 through GoFundMe to allow children from Harlem to see Marvel's Black Panther in theaters. Today, GoFundMe has announced that Joseph is launching a new campaign in time for the release of Captain Marvel, this time teaming up with Girls Inc. of Los Angeles to get young girls to see the new film.

"Captain Marvel is Marvel Studios’ first female led film, and an important moment for representation. The lead character, Carol Danvers, is not only a superhero, she’s also an athlete and fighter pilot," said Joseph upon announcing the campaign. "She is a prime example of the fact that women can do anything, and there isn’t a better person to be playing her than Brie Larson, who has been one of the faces of numerous feminist movements such as TIME’S UP. I am inspired by Brie and women around the globe and look forward to sending as many girls as possible to see this film."

With a goal of $10,000, Joseph's latest campaign to help children see films that mark an important moment for representation is well on its way to reaching its target. The funds donated will go toward the non-profit Girls Inc., providing the money needed to rent out theaters and provide tickets for the children. Any money that topples over the target goal will go toward Girls Inc. and We Have Stories. Donate here.
