Barbie Ferreira of Euphoria is opening up about comments she’s received since the success of the show.

The model/actress, who plays Kat Hernandez in HBO’s popular series, caught up with Who What Wear and touched on her thoughts about people who tell her that choices like wearing a crop top are “brave.”

“It’s also like, not radical for me to be wearing a crop top,” Ferreira said. She went on to say such observations are “just backhanded compliments. I’ve been doing this since I was 16. I’m 25.”

Ferreira also opened up about expressing “myself through my clothes,” and called the filming of the second season “therapeutic” because she was able to bring a bit of herself into the role.

“I feel like I had a lot of things come up emotionally because of the pandemic, and putting some of that into this season was therapeutic for me. … I hope other people [watching] can also feel the same way and release the pressure of being perfect and happy all the time. Because that just doesn’t exist,” she said.

As for that pressure of being “perfect,” Ferreira said body positivity conversations are shifting but “maybe not in the right ways.”

“I think bigger bodies are not as ‘trendy’ as they used to be, which is really sad to me,” she said. “But it’s more of a conversation of the fact that we all struggle with self-love, and I don’t think any young person has really figured it out yet.”
