According to the outlet, the WWE wrestler-turned-action star racked in an estimated $89.4 million from June 2018 to June of 2019. Although that's about $35 million less than his earnings last year, Johnson was able to take the No. 1 spot on this year's list. He landed at No. 2 in 2018, following George Clooney ($239 million). The last time Johnson led this ranking was in 2016, with estimated earnings of $64.5 million.
"Receiving news like this will always serve as my anchoring reminder to continue to work even harder," Johnson wrote on Instagram about the 2016 list. "We not only want to 'embrace the grind,' but take the grind to new levels. I learned a few invaluable lessons a long time ago that can help all of you guys out there succeed at whatever it is you're doing."
Over the past year, Johnson has starred in projects like Skyscraper, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and Fighting With My Family; the latter being one of several films Johnson has also produced. Forbes points out that the newly married actor receives 15 percent "of the pool from high-grossing franchise movies," including Jumanji. He is expected to pull in $23.5 million for Jumanji: The Next Level, which is set to premiere later this year.
Johnson also gets $700,000 per episode for his HBO Ballers series, and earns about seven figures in royalties from his brand deal with Under Armour.
Following Johnson are MCU stars Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr., who racked in $76.4 million and $66 million, respectively. Marvel stars Chris Evans and Paul Rudd almost appeared on the list, which included Jackie Chan, Adam Sandler, Bradley Cooper, and Will Smith, who rounded out the top 10 with $35 million.
