UPDATE 9/10/2018: Netflix has released the Daredevil confessional scene as an official "teaser trailer" for season 3. Check it out above.

Original post is below.

No shade to Danny Rand, but if you didn't realize that season two of Marvel's Iron Fist hit Netflix today, it wouldn't be your fault. Hell, the most recent push from Marvel regarding their Netflix properties was that cryptic tweet about Daredevil that hit social media on Thursday, to which all of Marvel's Defenders responded to.

Today, fans and critics are hype over what happened after the second season of Iron Fist ended: a post-credits scene featuring the Man Without Fear himself. Here's why that's important, and what it could mean for season 3 of Daredevil, which is set to drop later this year.

[Ed. Note: Spoilers for Marvel's The Defenders follow. Proceed at your own risk.]

For those who don't remember, Daredevil was f*cked the f*ck up at the end of Defenders. A whole building fell on top of him, and to the outside world, everyone considered him dead. Of course, he wasn't. The post-credits scene from The Defenders showed Matt Murdock very much alive, being taken care of by some nuns. He even calls for one of the nuns by name: Maggie, which could be a reference to his mother, Maggie Murdock, and the 1986 "Born Again" Daredevil story from the comics. Many figured that would set the tone for what season 3 of Daredevil would contain.

Not to say that season 3 won't incorporate elements from "Born Again" in some way, this post-credits scene from season 2 of Iron Fist finds Murdock embracing a darker path. We find Murdock in confessional, bloody while holding rosary beads. Then he speaks: "I once believed that justice could be found in a court of law, and in the light of day. But I was fooling myself. Darkness only responds to darkness. And the truth is, I'd rather die as the devil than live as Matt Murdock."

It's also interesting to note that Murdock's rocking his old black costume, as opposed to the red gear he got in Daredevil season 2 and wore through Defenders. Could this hint at a new costume for season 3?

Whatever happens, it looks like Daredevil's third season will be much darker than the two previous. With New York Comic-Con just a month away, it's a safe bet that we'll get more insight on Daredevil's new outlook, and the season in general, very soon.
