After clashing earlier this month, Conway the Machine and Funkmaster Flex have buried the hatchet with the “RIP Steve Smith” freestyle.

“Last week me and Conway had some words!” the DJ wrote alongside the song, which he shared on YouTube. “I sent him a track…He accepted the challenge and here we are! Rest in peace to Steve Smith! I thought it was right to name it that since Steve Smith was the creator of the all day hip-hop format and this freestyle is hip-hop!”

Rapping over Biz Markie’s 1988 track “Nobody Beats the Biz,” Conway gasses himself up and slyly boasts about signing to Eminem’s Shady Records for “millions.”

“Look, I’m one of the illest new n***as they comin’ across/All the other ill n***as is everyone in my squad,” the Griselda rapper spits, effortlessly gliding over the minimal instrumental. “Y’all better go do your homework assignments/N***a said he don’t fuck with us, do you know he was lying?”

The issues between the two surfaced after Conway accused Flex of being an out-of-touch “gatekeeper.” In an Instagram Live session, Conway appeared to diss both Flex and DJ Suss One, who he said would be “stifling” his growth as an artist if he “needed” them. Flex, in a response, tagged Conway in a post on Instagram and invited him to further “debate” the issue.

The comments later inspired Pete Rock to trade shots with Flex, too. “You don’t play real artist no more,” said Rock in a since-deleted comment on Flex’s post of Conway’s rant. He accused Flex of looking down on artists and called him a “sucka DJ” for not supporting “real hip-hop.” In his response, Flex said he loved Rock’s music, but he felt his comments were “goofy.”
