Coi Leray has tapped Nicki Minaj for her latest single “Blick Blick” after some back-and-forth over its existence. The MCs expertly swap verses on a track as bright as its eccentric cover art and music video, above.
After the drama surrounding the single—which had its existence leaked by Coi’s father Benzino during a Clubhouse session—Nicki revealed on Twitter that she “did pull” the verse but that “the label hit me going hard.” Luckily, she changed her mind.
“But rlly I had a private convo w/ Coi & that’s what changed my mind. Not the label,” Nicki said. “I just felt bad that she was robbed of telling the world in her own way @ her own time. But that’s water under the bridge now. Good vibes all 2022.”
Coi addressed the mix-up with her father, writing on Twitter that her “dad has to realize that I’m my own person.”
“Not only am I am artist, but ima young black WOMEN FIRST and he has to understand his actions and what he does can possibly affect me overall as a brand,” she shared. “Most important part of it all is , all this is bringing me and him closer.”
Listening to the song, Nicki was certainly right about her verse on the track, as she promised her Barbz this week that they “won’t be able to learn the verse right away so don’t try.”
Check out “Blick Blick” below or up top, which is expected to land on Coi’s upcoming debut studio album Trendsetter.
