Quavo surprised hip-hop heads at midnight with the new Future collab "Turn Yo Clic Up."
The 32-year-old Atlanta MC's Rocket Power album—named of course in honor of the late The Last Rocket rapper and his Unc & Phew bandmate Takeoff—is expected to drop soon. He called the project "my therapy" not long after releasing the single and visual “Honey Bun” in the spring.
Quavo teased the new release on Thursday night on his socials, indicating he had a visual—now available up top—in store. Last weekend he alluded to the track when he tweeted, "The Pain Won’t Ever Go Away #RocketPower🚀 It’s Time To Turn Yo Clicc Up Thru It All."
39-year-old Future has appeared shoulder-to-shoulder with Quavo—with varying levels of memorability—on Post Malone’s “Congratulations” remix, DJ Khaled’s “Iced Out My Arms,” Migos’ “Picasso,” and Pop Smoke’s posthumous “Snitching."
"Turn Yo Clic Up" has production by Atake, Sluzyyy, Basobeats, and Macshooter49. Astute listeners just might catch the reliably petty Hendrix spitting "I got it out the field, fuck Russell." Stream it below and watch the video above.
Quavo had a different surprise in store last month, when he and Offset formed like Voltron to pay homage to Takeoff onstage at the BET Awards.
The Father of 4 artist was visibly relieved and content talking about it afterward, saying on Instagram Live, “It cleared my soul. Me and my brother Quay, man, we put that together within, like, 16 hours, like, 15 hours. … We the greatest group to ever touch the mic. RIP my brother, Take. We did it for my brother Take. Me and Quay stood tall, brother to brother. And I appreciate everybody for supporting. It was a movie, it was a vibe. We needed that for the culture.”
On the Future front, he's thankfully due to drop a full album with the inimitable Metro Boomin, with whom he made generational magic on What a Time to Be Alive, DS2, Monster, Purple Reign, and more.
“The ultimate project right now is about to be the one with me and Future,” the 29-year-old superproducer told Complex's Mark Elibert in June. “Now that Spider-Man is out and people are loving and resonating with it, my focus can go to what me and Pluto got coming out. I’m not doing anything until that gets done. ... With our track record, it’s important that we deliver and not miss at all. Me and him working together is easy 'cause we’ve been doing it for 10-plus years. ... With some other people, sometimes you have to eat whatever shit they give you that day. But with Pluto, he’s on the same shit I’m on, and I tell him, let’s make the hardest shit we can make, and he’s all in.”
The dynamic/often outright demonic (in the best sense) duo reconnected for four tracks on Young Metro's year-defining Heroes & Villains album last December, and Future popped up on Metro's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack last month.
