Kevin Abstract revealed that the former members of Brockhampton barely talk to each other anymore. Abstract reflected on being a part of the immensely popular rap group in a post on X that addressed their fans.
“Brockhampton era changed my life but none of the guys really even talk anymore outside of a few of us,” Abstract wrote. “Although i know that our band is never getting back together i appreciate all of you all forever thanks for the support.”
Abstract’s heartfelt message about his former group comes over two years after they disbanded. It was Abstract himself who signed the group off with the song “The Ending,” which saw him reflect on the early days of the collective when they packed up and all moved to Los Angeles.
“This is the ending we all envisioned, right?” he raps at the conclusion of the track. “This is me, Abstract gone for the night.”
The crew shocked the world in January 2022 when they announced that they were going on an “indefinite hiatus” after four shows in London and at Coachella.
“Brockhampton’s upcoming shows at the O2 Academy Brixton in London and at Coachella will be our final performances as a group,” read a statement that Brockhampton shared with fans at the time. “All other tour dates are canceled, effective immediately. Refunds for all tickets and VIP packages will be available at the point of purchase. Following these four performances, we will be taking an indefinite hiatus as a group.”
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being on this journey with us,” the statement continued. “We would not be here without our fans. We hope we’ve been able to inspire you as much as you have us these past eight years. We are bonded and grateful to you for life.”
Last year, Complex spoke with Abstract about his upcoming plans to release music in the wake of his 2023 album, Blanket.
“I’ve just been working again, it’s been awesome,” he said. “I’m comfortable where I’m at because I was so scared before putting out a solo album.”
