Can Lil Nas X extend his "Old Town Road" success to the Grammys? That's among the questions that received partial answers Wednesday with the unveiling of the nominees for the 2020 edition of the music excellency-honoring ceremony.

Tyler, the Creator's IGOR, Juice WRLD's Death Race for Love, 2 Chainz's Rap or Go to the League, Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next, Lizzo's Cuz I Love You, and Taylor Swift's Lover were among the most-discussed possible nominees in the album-centered categories. While Swift's Lover was predicted by Rolling Stone and others as both a surefire nominee and an easy-bet winner in the Album of the Year category, we'd all be remiss in forgetting that the category has spawned multiple surprises across its decades-long history. And in fact, Wednesday brought exactly that sort of surprise.

Over in the Best New Artist category, Billie Eilish indeed proved to be an outright shoo-in, though—again—surprises here in terms of the eventual winner aren't totally out of the question.

Amazingly, Lana Del Rey's multiple nominations—including in the Album of the Year category—means we'll get a ton of chances in January to watch people attempt to avoid saying the word "Fuck" on live television.
