Fans of Jay Z (or anyone who paid attention to the track listing on The Black Album) are likely aware that December 4 marks Hov’s birthday. That 2003 album featured the track “December 4th,” in which both Jay and his mother, Gloria Carter, run down Jay’s bio, complete with intimate details about how the man some believe is Hip Hop’s GOAT came into this world at 10 pounds and eight ounces.
As Hov’s 48th birthday draws closer, his former partners at the Brooklyn Nets saw fit to give him an early birthday gift. What exactly do you get someone who Forbes estimates has a net worth of over $800 million? If you’re Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment CEO Brett Yormark, you bless Jay with a ridiculously detailed cake that serves as an edible autobiography/discography.
Roc Nation’s Emory Jones shared the first look at the cake via his Instagram feed, while backstage at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum after the 4:44 tour hit Long Island.
“Happy birthday to the big homie,” Jones said in the video. “The cake is amazing. This is how Nassau set it off already. Come on, man. Look at the detail in there.”
As for those details—the top layer features an old school cathode ray television, with the beige color palette from the 4:44 album underneath it. There’s also an entire layer dedicated to the visuals from “The Story of O.J.” with the signature “Jaybo” caricature.
More intricate details adorn the cake as well, including the Motorola “Timeport” two-way pagers Jay popularized during The Dynasty Roc La Familia (2000). The Tidal logo, the revamped Roc Nation paper plane logo, a Gramophone, plenty of Roc-a-Fella chains, and what appears to be an Audemars Piguet can also be found.
If you weren’t following Jones on Instagram after discovering Jay referenced his “all white, no socks cocaina” outfit on the final version of “Family Feud” about 10 days after Emory wore it, now would be a good time.
