Damon Dash believes Drake may have benefitted from Universal Music Group (UMG) using bots to boost his music, similar to the tactics the label allegedly used for Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us."
In the latest episode of his show on America Nu Network, Dame reflected on Drake's pre-action petition against UMG, suggesting the rapper may have been aware of the company's practices. According to Dame, Drake likely isn't pleased with UMG using these alleged tactics against him.
Dame also explained how things could go sour with companies, noting a disagreement between Drake and UMG that may have led to the pre-action petition.
"If he's, to me, outside objectively, if he's thinking they did it or he knows they did it, it must have meant potentially they may have done it on his behalf before," said Dame. "Or he must have seen it done to know that could even exist. It's probably alright when it's rocking for you, but when they used it against you, it could be a trigger."
He added, "When you're doing alright, they rocking with you, and they play tricks on people and do all types of stuff, but when you're not doing alright, they use the same things that helped you to hurt you and that's the problem with being dependent on them cause you're subject to their temperament. So I could see where he was triggered to do that, but the timing of it all, I could see where there could be some recourse for him a little backlash cause it could look like he's being a sore loser even though he knows they're using it to leverage him to maybe cheat him out of some bread."
Dame went on to explain that people are often kind until a disagreement or misunderstanding reveals their true intentions. The 53-year-old music executive has faced legal troubles in the past, including $8.7 million in back taxes and an $823,000 judgment to director Josh Webber.
