As Freddie Gibbs prepares to drop a new album, the Indiana rapper stopped by Funkmaster Flex’s studio to spit a new freestyle over an Amerie classic.

Gibbs didn’t shy away from touching on a few controversial subjects, including R. Kelly and his ongoing feud with internet personality Akademiks.

“A yo, why the started me/ Leg shot almost bled out your artery / Kidnap your wife, duct tape her, I got no heart in me / On my Spike Lee, I might might direct, produce, and starring me / Fuck R. Kelly, bitch I’m the new king of R&B,” he raps over Amerie’s “Why Don’t We Fall in Love.”

He later raps, “Bout to squeeze Akademik’s titties, I love a fat bitch / You a dick in the booty n***a, go get the strap bitch/ They said Rabbit let these n***as breathe / I guess they playing from behind trying to up the score ’cause you in the league / But I said “Fuck it, let these n***as bleed.”

The freestyle comes as Gibbs gears up to drop his fifth studio album Soul Sold Separately on Sept. 30. The project will mark Gibbs’ major label debut, arriving two years after he inked a deal with Warner Records. The title of the LP refers to the Indiana rapper’s “refusal to compromise his morals or integrity under the pressures of the industry,” the label said in a press release.

Gibbs kicked off the album rollout earlier this month, posting billboards in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. Gibbs also dropped off the visual for his single “Too Much” on Sept. 2, which features an appearance from Moneybagg Yo.

Soul Sold Separately arrives after Gibbs dropped off a lauded pair of collaborative projects, 2019’s Bandana with Madlib and 2020’s Alfredo with The Alchemist, the latter of which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2021 Grammys.
