During an extensive conversation with Akademiks, T-Pain said Chris Brown’s “princess complex” was to blame for the lukewarm reaction to his 10th studio album Breezy, which recently debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

The showing was unusually weak for the platinum star, racking up just 72,000 equivalent album units.

“July 8th breezy deluxe album,” the 33-year-old announced on his Instagram Stories at the time. He then pivoted, “Not that it matters…SEEMS LIKE YALL ONLY INVEST IN THE NEGATIVE STORIES ABOUT ME. CHRIS GETS IN TROUBLE (THE WHOLE WORLD IS ON it). Chris drops album [crickets]. I’m back on my gangsta shit. It’s BRACKING at all times.”

T-Pain told Ak that Chris Brown’s ego might be to blame for his recent flop.

“That is my motherfuckin’ n***a, but I know what his faults are,” Pain said. “Chris Brown has the princess complex. … Now, we gon’ take this to something that is controversial, but—it’s not controversial. Basically, the princess complex is when a young girl grows up in a family or in surroundings where every day she gets called a princess, she gets called pretty, she’s the prettiest girl in the world, blah blah, blah blah blah.”

The veteran artist continued, saying it’s different from being spoiled. “The princess complex is not only when you get what you want, but you get the accolades of a pretty person for doing absolutely fucking nothing and just being pretty. … The second that the first real motherfucker comes to you and says, ‘Hey, you ain’t that fuckin’ pretty,’ it’s over. Breakdown. Twitter outrage. Everything. Now, this is my n***a and I’m not saying that he has this…I’m just saying my n***a, if he put out the tweets that I saw, if that was actually him, then yeah.”

T-Pain said Brown has long been accustomed to people buying his albums and supporting his work and that he’s become used to succeeding.

“Now it’s like, ‘Y’all must’ve done something wrong because I’ve done the same thing that I’ve done every time, and the shit’s gone great. So now y’all must have done something wrong cause it ain’t me. It ain’t me. I know what I’m doing, I’m fucking Chris Brown,’” Pain explained.

Breezy dropped on June 24 and featured appearances from Lil Wayne, Lil Baby, Jack Harlow, Lil Durk, Anderson .Paak, Fivio Foreign, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Tory Lanez, and others. Despite the low numbers, it wasn’t all bad news. The singer’s latest still helped him surpass Elvis Presley on the all-time Billboard Hot 100 hits list. He also broke the Weeknd’s record for most entries on the Hot R&B Songs chart.
