After a very public, year-long fight with Atlantic Records, Waka Flocka Flame announced that he has officially parted ways with his former label in a series of tweets Wednesday.
Waka has been very critical of Atlantic for refusing to release his album Flockaveli 2. "The first thing the label asked after I got shot is -- 'can you go to the studio,'” he said in October 2015 on Twitter. "From that day forward I knew my label didn't care I'm just another dollar sign." He later tweeted the label's phone number, asking fans to call the company directly and ask for Waka's album to be released.
The last album Waka released on the label was Triple F Life back in 2012. He announced that Flockaveli 2 was complete back in 2013, but Atlantic never showed any signs of releasing it. The relationship was complicated by his very public falling out with Gucci Mane, who had first arranged the record deal for Waka.
Now, with the drama behind him, Waka can finally get back to dropping music the way he wants.
