After a series of career highs since his release from prison in January, DMX has decided to return to rehab.

In a post on Instagram, a member of DMX’s team wrote, “In his ongoing commitment to putting family and sobriety first, DMX has checked himself into a rehab facility. He apologizes for his cancelled shows and thanks his fans for their continued support.”

According to TMZ, DMX wanted to prevent a potential relapse by preemptively checking himself in. Sources tell TMZ that one of X's kids is very sick, which has contributed to his stress and temptations to use. He wants to work on balancing his life better so he can provide for his family and perform for his fans.

DMX has struggled with fighting his demons and his substance abuse, entering rehab at various points in his life over the years. In 2017, he canceled three shows in California in order to check into a rehab facility. While he was on house arrest for tax evasion that same year, he continued to work on his issues by checking into another substance abuse facility in New England. He was reportedly making good progress with his treatment.

This year, X maintained a steady comeback and gained genuine support by his fans. He went on tour for the 20th anniversary of It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and performed at major festivals like SXSW and Rolling Loud: Miami. Notably, DMX was featured in a GQ feature about resigning to Def Jam.

DMX hasn’t revealed where he admitted himself or when he’ll be returning yet. He was scheduled to perform at Three 6 Mafia’s reunion concert in Memphis on Saturday (Oct. 12) and Day 2 of Rolling Loud in New York on Sunday (Oct. 13).
