X is hoping to write as many as 70 songs before whittling those down to what will become his debut studio album.

Lil Nas X, fresh off a pair of MTV Video Music Award wins and a Country Music Association Awards nomination, is currently looking ahead to his next project. As this year's eight-track 7 project was technically billed as an EP, X's next release will (technically) mark his debut studio album.

Speaking with Angie Martinez in a recent Power 105.1 interview, X gave fans an update on how the writing's going so far, including some insight on where he's hoping to take his music in this next batch of songs.

"Yes, I have," X said around 28 minutes into the interview above when asked if he'd started work on the new album. "I'm only, like, two percent done though. I wanna have at least, like, 70 songs to choose from before making a 10 to 15 track album. With the EP, I had, like, literally 13 songs and picked half of those."

As for his goals this go-around, X is looking for a specific combo.

"I definitely want it to be, I guess, more personal maybe, but still slapping," he said.

From there, X was asked to elaborate on what he's been listening to recently, perhaps offering a window into what fans can expect on the album.

"I listen to '1901' by Phoenix, I think that slaps," he said. "I listen to 'How Bout Now' by Drake. That's old but it slaps. I listen to the theme songs from Disney Channel sometimes because some of those slap. I listen to the entire Damn album by Kendrick. That slaps. It's different things. Even some Taylor Swift, underground songs."

Catch the full interview above, then keep an eye or two out for X's "Panini" video, which is expected to drop shortly.
