Cardi B often takes to social media to speak with her fans about the political landscape, and urge them to become educated on 2020 Democratic candidates to ensure Donald Trump does not win reelection. In a recent Instagram Live session, the Invasion of Privacy rapper called out the president for failing to respond to acts of police brutality, which is indicative of his lack of concern and will likely continue until he is no longer president.
"Every single time I see a black man get killed or mistreated by the police, I just keep saying like, 'What the fuck? Nobody gives a fuck. Nobody cares? Nobody cares?' And I stopped saying that because nobody do care! Nobody cares. He don't care. He don't care," she said.
She then compared Trump's demeanor to that of his predecessor. "At least when Obama was president, Obama used to always give a statement letting us know that he feels like it's wrong. He feels it. He sees it. This guy, I know he sees it and he don't give not one shit. I feel like police brutality is going to keep going until he's [no longer] president. Until he's [no longer] president, nothing is going to be done about police brutality."
Cardi then drew parallels between the police and misbehaved children, explaining how repeated actions are not met with subsequent punishments.
“You know when a kid is bad, right, and they keep getting away with something so they keep on doing it. Cops are going to keep doing it, ‘Oh, I could get away with killing a black man? I could get away with beating the shit out of them? We’re going to keep doing it. The last guy got away with it, so why not me?’”
The rapper then concluded by urging her fans to become knowledgeable of the pool of 2020 Democratic candidates, a sentiment she has repeatedly spotlighted in recent posts.
“So, [as long as] this man is the president and he most likely will have a chance in 2020, shit like that’s going to keep on happening. So please, get educated about these candidates so we can get this dick the fuck out. Because he don’t give a shit and shit could get worse.”
Cardi has said she will support Bernie Sanders in the upcoming election. The Vermont Senator recently told Jimmy Kimmel that he has spoken to the rapper several times on the phone, and praised her intelligence and genuine concern.
"She is really smart and she is deeply concerned about what's happening in this country," Sanders told the talk-show host. "That's the truth. She comes from a humble background and she knows what it's like to live in poverty, to struggle, and she wants to make sure that we can improve life for working people in this country. I'm delighted that she is a supporter."
