Spotify Responds to Nicki Minaj Saying Company Downplayed 'Queen' Promotion to 'Teach Me a Lesson'

On Sunday, Nicki Minaj fired off a series of tweets blaming Spotify for robbing her of streams and promotion that affected her sales for 'Queen.' The company has responded to her complaints in a statement.

When Nicki Minaj’s album Queenlanded at No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200, behind Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD, she went on Twitter and proceeded to blame everyone from Spotify to Kylie Jenner and her six-month-old baby Stormi—leading to some hilarious memes

She blasted the streaming company for not giving her the kind of promotion it did for Drake’s Scorpion, and claimed Spotify delayed her album release to “teach her a lesson.”

Spotify put drake’s face on every playlist but told me they’d have to teach me a lesson for playing my music 10 mins early on #QueenRadio. Even tho they’ve been giving away my music for free for years & I am one of the top Spotify artists of all time.

Spotify had to teach me a lesson but rewarded the man who has had an Apple radio show the longest; inadvertently helping the Apple platform the most. Oh I can’t wait for #QueenRadio on Tuesday. They took away my promotion they had promised for the 1st cpl days b/c of this. #Queen

My music went up on Apple so I played it. I assumed it was on Spotify & Tidal at the same time. Spotify said that Apple tweeted fans advising #Queen was up & therefore they had to teach me a lesson. But PRAISE BE TO GOD!!!!!!

A representative for the streaming company did not respond to Nicki’s second claim about the late rollout, but did generally address her grievances in a statement to Hits Daily Double.

“Spotify supported Nicki Minaj with a Times Square billboard, a host of the largest playlists, New Music Friday and the new music release shelf,” the statement reads. “Her song 'Bed' actually saw an increase based on the promotions put behind the campaign. The company continues to be big fans of Nicki.”

Onika is returning to Queen Radio on Tuesday, and hinted she may use the airtime as an opportunity to vocalize her issues with Spotify, her album rollout, and Travis Scott. "Oh I can’t wait for #QueenRadio on Tuesday," she said on Twitter. Stay tuned.
