Porn Should Pay for Border Wall, Says Republican Arizona Lawmaker

With the government shutdown still ongoing, one Arizona politician seems to have concocted the perfect plan to fund the wall: make people pay to watch porn.

Recently, Republican state Rep. Gail Griffin shared a house bill that would require companies that sell or make electronics in Arizona to add a built-in porn-blocked software and then charge users $20 to view porn, according to the New York Post. The money would be allocated to the Arizona Commerce Authority for the supposed “John McCain Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Fund.”

The bill reads that the fund would then go to “build a border wall between Mexico and this state or fund border security” and provide grants for mental health services, temporary housing, school districts, and law enforcement.

But proponents of adult entertainment are calling the bill “pretty clearly unconstitutional.” Comparable proposals have been introduced in Virginia and Rhode Island, but “the border wall twist is new,” Mike Stabile, spokesman for the non-for-profit Free Speech Coalition, told the Arizona Mirror.

According to the Mirror, the bill seems to be connected to Chris Sevier, a man who notoriously sued Utah in 2017 for failing to acknowledge his marriage to his laptop. A few years before, in 2013, he attempted to sue Apple, alleging that his Macbook was culpable for his addiction to porn.
