Grace Wales Bonner has been named the Creative Director of Men’s Ready-to-Wear at Hermès.
The appointment was announced Tuesday, Oct. 21, with the Wales Bonner founder and artistic director saying in a press release that she is “deeply honored” to take on the role.
“I am deeply honored to be entrusted with the role of Creative Director of Hermès Men’s Ready-to-Wear,” she said. “It is a dream realized to embark on this new chapter, following in a lineage of inspired craftspeople and designers. I wish to express my gratitude to Pierre-Alexis Dumas and Axel Dumas for the opportunity to bring my vision to this magical house.”
Per press notes, Grace is set to present her debut Hermès collection this coming January.
“I am really pleased to welcome Grace to the Hermès Artistic Director family,” Pierre-Alexis Dumas, General Artistic Director of Hermès, said Tuesday. “Her take on contemporary fashion, craft and culture will contribute to shaping Hermès men’s style, melding the house’s heritage with a confident look on the now. Grace’s appetite and curiosity for artistic practice strongly resonate with Hermès’ creative mindset and approach. We are at the start of an enriching mutual dialogue.”
Wales Bonner, a Central Saint Martins alum, is an award-winning designer, with honors to her name including the LVMH Young Designer Prize in 2016 and the CFDA International Men’s Designer of the Year in 2021.
Ahead of the Wales Bonner appointment, Hermès said that Véronique Nichanian, Artistic Director of Hermès Men’s Universe, would be presenting her final collection during Paris Fashion Week in January.
Also this month, the French luxury brand opened the first Hermès store in Nashville, Tennessee. The boutique, located in the Wedgewood-Houston area of Music City, marks the forty-third Hermès store in the U.S.
