This June, Grace Wales Bonner will be the special guest designer at Pitti Uomo.
The distinction was announced on Friday, with press materials noting the designer will present the Spring/Summer 2023 collection of her Wales Bonner label with an event at a location still to be announced. Lapo Cianchi, who serves as Pitti’s special events director, said Friday the team has been “familiar with” Grace’s work since her debut. Of particular attraction, Cianchi added, was her “cultural sensibility and multidisciplinary approach.”
For Grace, meanwhile, this “special opportunity” provided the chance to express her label’s vision while also tapping into an institution considered “historically important.”
Additional details will be announced soon. Pitti Immagine Uomo begins June 14 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence.
Last summer, Wales Bonner launched its limited edition Vision Songs t-shirt collection, with profits being put toward the Care India foundation. The shirt is part of a collaboration between Wales Bonner and ambient artist Laraaji, whose Vision Songs No. 1 album was originally released back in 1984.
