Here's Why Lebron James Told the Media to 'Be Better Tomorrow' at Game 1 Press Conference

LeBron James wasn’t exactly in the mood to answer the media’s questions after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors yesterday. While JR Smith is arguably entirely to blame for the 124-114 loss, the reasons why stop mattering once that buzzer goes off—the Cavs lost, LeBron was rightfully upset, and answering incessant and repetitive post-game questions was probably not the most soothing way to end the night.

Reporters gathered in the Oracle Arena’s media room, clamoring to ask King James a series of questions related to the night’s events. While they remained fairly calm and collected, you can tell LeBron himself is both furious and disappointed with how the game went down.

When asked whether Smith thought the Cavs were up or tied with the Warriors, LeBron’s abrupt answer says it all: “How would I know that?” He then adds that he’s already answered questions regarding JR’s actions. “I said no already,” said James. “I thought we were all aware of what was going on, that’s my view, so I don’t know what JR was thinking. I don’t know the question you’re trying to ask.”

Unbelievably, the reporter couldn’t leave it alone—asking, again, if LeBron wasn’t sure what JR was thinking. “What do you mean I’m not sure,” asked LeBron. “No, I don’t know his state of mind.” And then, the clincher. The reporter stunningly asks, after all this, “Did you know if he knew the score?” That’s when this happened:

With a few editing alterations and sound effects, this post-game conference would frankly be hilarious, if the Cavaliers’ stunning loss last night wasn’t so heartbreaking. For LeBron, being asked the same question more than four times, by the same person, right after losing, must seem like a bad joke. LeBron telling everyone to “Be better tomorrow” is the calm version of what he was really trying to tell them, and he’s all the more impressive for keeping it so cool.
