Dwight Howard is the owner of a purple car, and while the logical interpretation behind that color choice would be to show his allegiance to his new team, the Los Angeles Lakers (in his second go-round with the organization), that isn’t the case.

The color of his car is actually meant to resemble the skin color of his favorite Marvel character, Thanos. Back in July, Howard appeared on FS1’s Fair Game with Kristine Leahy. While there, the three-time Defensive Player of the Year shared the story behind meeting the man who plays the Mad Titan, Josh Brolin, on the same flight headed to the Avengers: Endgame premiere.

.@DwightHoward loves Thanos so much that he bought a purple car! 🤣

"I was sitting, like, two seats behind him, so I write him a letter, and I’m just telling him, 'Thank you! Your character in this movie changed my life. It changed my thought process, and I really appreciate you for what you did," Howard recalled. "I love your movies, and all that stuff." Brolin wrote a letter back, and the two exchanged pleasantries after their plane landed.

While taking a recent tour of his mansion on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Howard revealed why Thanos served as an inspiration for his purple vehicle. "I got this purple car because of Thanos," he said at the 1:38 mark. "He's from Avengers and he’s my favorite character. He was able to understand that in order for him to complete his mission, he had to get rid of his emotions, and that’s the hardest thing that we all face."

We would’ve said the color of his car is a deep purple. Turns out it’s a deeeeep purple.
