The Seahawks reportedly looked into adding Antonio Brown to their roster before electing to move forward with Josh Gordon.
ESPN's Adam Schefter said that Seattle "had been doing their due diligence" on Brown, according to his sources. Insiders say that this move was triggered and supported by Russell Wilson. But ultimately, the Seahawks decided to claim Brown's former Patriots teammate off waivers on Friday.
It's not clear what made the Seahawks stop looking into Brown, but there is an ongoing NFL investigation surrounding him. The league has yet to announce if AB would have to be placed on paid leave if he's added to another roster. It's possible that the Seahawks caught wind of any pending punishments for the wide receiver and decided not to take on the responsibility. Once the investigation concludes, the Seahawks (and other teams) will likely double back and express interest in Brown.
As for their newest accquisition, coach Pete Carroll considers Gordon a "special talent." He told reporters that he's "a big-play guy" who can "really stretch the field." The Pats let go of Gordon after he raked in 20 catches, 287 yards, and a touchdown in six games with New England.
