According to Cleveland.com, Green was killed Thursday night on Put-in-Bay's South Bass Island in Ohio. The recent high school graduate was the passenger of an ATV being driven by an 18-year-old man. Authorities say that around about 8 p.m., the driver made a sharp turn at a high speed, causing the vehicle to roll over. Green was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement continue to investigate the incident, but said they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role.

"This is not something any parent, coach, or player should have to deal with," said Green's former football coach, Josh Wells. "He was a special kid, and he touched a lot of people’s hearts.”

The 19-year-old had plans to attend the University of Cincinnati in the fall. He was a punter for the Rocky River High School football team, and wore the No. 13 in honor of Odell, whom he followed since he days at LSU.

"Anyone's who around Pat would know this would mean the world to him. He would be beside himself right now," Green's friend Michael Finnegan said about Odell's tweet. "[...] Rec basketball, football, baseball—he was No.13 always."

Finnegan also recalled the moment he informed Green that the Giants had traded Odell to the Browns.

"He actually started to shed a tear because he loved the Giants so much," Finnegan said. "So at first he was a little upset, but then he realized that the Browns have a much better opportunity for him to grow with Baker Mayfield and just the surrounding offense that's going to be this year."

Green's friends and family have since responded to Odell's post, thanking him for the tribute as well as being an inspiration to the late teen.

You have no idea how much this would’ve meant to him. You were his biggest inspiration and his favorite athlete. I know he’s up there right now thinking about how unreal this is. Thank you Odell #13 💚
