Defense might win championships but it doesn't get you to the All-Star Game. That's what Rudy Gobert learned when he realized that he wasn't going to Charlotte. The Utah Jazz center and reigning Defensive Player of the Year was visibly upset in a press event after the All-Star reserves were announced.

Rudy grew increasingly emotional speaking with the media about his All-Star snub. Said his mom called him crying. Said he wrote and deleted several messages on social media. Finally, he grew too emotional to speak, and walked off, wiping away tears. pic.twitter.com/UkFX2nUrt8

Gobert noted that his mom called him in tears over the snub and thinking back to that moment seemed to have rattled him. Though he had enough of a motive to be shaken considering his stellar season, a look at Gobert's contract revealed he had exactly a million reasons to be miffed.

Rudy Gobert will miss out on a $1M bonus for not being selected to the All-Star game. He will not receive the bonus if selected as a replacement player.

Of course, you can't cry at a press conference without the rest of the NBA and the wider basketball internet piling on. Draymond Green and Andre Igoudola both clowned Gobert for getting teary-eyed.

I guess I should cry too... no Charlotte? 😢😢😢

He gone cry in the car?

Nuggets guard Isaiah Thomas, who hasn't played a game this season, also chimed in.

Come on fam you are too big to be crying like that...

Others couldn't help but see Gobert's point. If the point of All-Star selection is to pick the best players in the NBA, then Gobert almost definitely belongs there.

Y’all really voted KAT in over Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell? pic.twitter.com/fgDvmymNuI
