It's a brand new era for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Earlier today, the buds confirmed that Kyle Dubas is set to become the franchise's next general manager. At only 32 years of age, the hockey executive becomes the second youngest GM in the league, just a few years behind the current record holder, Arizona Coyotes wiz kid, John Chayka. The aforementioned millennial was just 26 two years ago when he accepted the offer to lead Arizona's on-ice future.

Dubas' promotion is the first major move for the Leafs since their first round playoff exit at the hands of bitter rivals, the Boston Bruins. Following the game seven elimination, Toronto GM and league legend, Lou Lamoriello, announced that he wouldn't return the following season. Lou's retirement then left a vacant desk for the Leafs to fill, and most outlets pointed to an imminent hiring from within the team's front office. Dubas, who was reportedly being courted by other NHL teams, seemed like a natural fit for Leafs president, Brendan Shanahan.

With the new promotion, Dubas leaves his current duties as Assistant GM — it's the same job that he's held since entering the Leafs organization back in 2014. Despite his age, Kyle has already built up quite the resume. Aside from his time with the Leafs, he also steered the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and helped transform the AHL's Toronto Marlies. Both of his stints with these clubs ended in winning records. Only time will tell if the same will be true for his new squad.
