There are levels to this NFL free agency thing, and no one is touching Josh McCown. On Tuesday, it was reported that McCown was going to sign a one-year deal with the New York Jets worth $10 million. The following day, McCown posted a photo of himself on his Twitter account, signing the new contract on his smartphone as he waits for his food from Chick-fil-A.
“No better time to sign a deal with @nyjets then waiting on some @ChickfilA,” he wrote.
While us normal folk will wait for our fast food order in a drive-thru by doing something mundane, like tapping our fingers along to the beat of a song on the steering wheel, McCown is just finalizing a $10 million, life-altering decision. For both sides involved in this deal, the choice to bring McCown back wasn't a difficult one.
Following a 2017 campaign where McCown finished with a career-best in passing yards (2,926), completion percentage (67.3), and passing touchdowns (18), the Jets were willing to take a chance on him, regardless of his age. He turns 39 on July 4.
