This was supposed to be a holding pattern year for the Nets as they worked on getting their BK thug credentials in order while they waited to trade for Dwight Howard. Then their primary Howard trade chip, Brooks Lopez, went down with a broken foot, and their bona fide superstar, Deron Williams, went in the tank (he's shooting 35% and averaging fewer than 7 dimes a game). A lone bright spot might be Kris Humphries, who channeled the hate he's getting this season and put up his best game as a pro Saturday versus the Heat, going for 25 and 12. Still, the Nets may be looking at a dreary stretch that could extend into Ivy Blue's teen years. —Jack Erwin
