The worlds of sports, music, and sneakers have been firmly connected for decades. Athletes have signature sneakers, rappers have sneaker collabs, and you have major influencers that find themselves strongly connected to all three fields.

Migos frontman Quavo is one of the prime examples of that, as a multi-platinum recording artist, an avid basketball player, and one of the biggest sneakerheads in the rap game. Now, he is the star for Adidas Headphones brand new true wireless campaign, introducing the world to the Adidas Z.N.E. 01 ANC.

As part of the rollout, Quavo stars in a 60-second film going through his daily routine in the studio, at a photo shoot, and then eventually makes his way onto the basketball court where he throws on a pair to unwind and silence the world around him. The brand says its “Turn Up Movement” campaign is “embodied through the film, showcasing how music and movement empower creators’ performances, both physically and mentally.”

“As a lifelong sports and music fan, linking up with Adidas Headphones for their new true wireless collection offers the best of both worlds,” said Quavo. “I was excited to be one of the first people to try them out and love the sound, fit, and style. I think it’s so important to have the right music and the right earbuds to perform your best. I love that Adidas Headphones merges sport and music in its DNA.”

Pairs of the wireless headphones are available for preorder now on Adidas’ website and will have a full release in November. You can learn more about the headphones below in our interview with Quavo where he talks about the Z.N.E. 01s, Atlanta sports, his favorite sneaker of 2021, and more.

What do you love the most about the new Adidas Z.N.E. 01 ANC headphones?
They’re super, super, super light. You can play a real deal one-on-one basketball game. Like as you saw in the commercial, me and my boy played a full game and the whole time I had the headphones in. They are very comfortable and they’re loud, but like I said I just like the fact that they’re very, very light. You can grab them and throw them on anywhere.

A lot of sports headphones come with the strap that connects around the back of your head, but these are truly wireless. How much of a difference does that make when hooping or working out?
No wires allow you total freedom on the court. Like I got dreads and now there’s no wire tangling or anything you know what I’m saying? You don’t get it caught on things. Wireless is the way to go for sure.

Music and sports are very strongly connected. Everyone has their go-to playlist to pump them up for a game, can you speak to the relation that music and sports have to you personally?
Music and sports are very important to me. Without sports I wouldn’t be a musician and vice versa without music, I don’t think I’d be an athlete. I think it’s just adding that fuel to the fire, and it’s that gas that we need. With sports, we need music to amp us up, we need music  to give us that drive and motivation. Sometimes the artists could be saying the same thing that you’re going through in the locker room and it uplifts you and vice versa. We tend to go to the athletes that do great things and we use them as lyrics, we use them as bars. Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller, Steve Kerr, LeBron James. Drake gave us that Giannis bar. It’s the perfect marriage.

Everyone has their go-to song when they get a new pair of headphones. What did you throw on to try these out?
The first song I tried out with these new Adidas headphones “Strub Tha Ground” you know what I’m saying? I just dropped that new record with Young Miami and I had to see how that bass sounded because you have to have a great bass and they do, that bass is hitting.

What’s your favorite song that’s dropped in 2021 so far?
It’s gotta be “Having our Way” or “Straigtenin.”

The NBA season is just getting started, how are you feeling about Trae Young and the Hawks this year?
We look pretty good. I think we only lost one to the Cavaliers. We are looking pretty good though. I like the starting five. Everybody came back healthy. We got good chemistry, we playing, we looking pretty good.

Trae Young just got his first signature sneaker with Adidas? Did he hook you up with a pair, how are they?
Oh for sure I got a pair. Hopefully we can do a Glacier Boy, Ice Trae collab soon. The shoes are crazy, I got to narrate the commercial and that inspired me.

It’s been a crazy year for sneakers so far, what’s been your favorite sneaker of 2021 so far?
Gotta be the Adidas Ice Traes man, I gotta ride with my boy Trae.

The Braves are in the World Series for the first time in over two decades, how does that feel as such a big fan?
It feels good man, we gotta bring that chip to the city man. We gotta do something special for those boys, they been working real hard. They lost Acuña Jr. you know what I’m saying so it’s tough out there and they picked up some new pieces. I was watching Game 1 and they were coming out chopping in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd inning. We got kinda cold the rest of the night but it was enough to get us through the game. Let’s just do it, Go Braves. Chop on.

How much does it mean to the city of Atlanta for the Braves to be in the World Series?
It means a lot. It’s a great start for Atlanta and Georgia sports. We’re looking good down at UGA too, our Georgia Bulldogs looking real good. That World Series might spark them to bring the National Championship home. And then we’re gonna figure something out with the Falcons. We got the Hawks playing real good, hopefully some playoff basketball. Hopefully it will make everyone want to win in Atlanta and all over Georgia.
