“We ain’t at war no more.”

These words open a new clip from the upcoming second season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, premiering exclusively via Complex.

The tense dinner scene is led by Tony-winning performer Patina Miller, who plays the title character’s mother, Raquel. A mid-meal disagreement immediately raises the stakes of the moment, giving viewers some insight on what to expect when the series returns to Starz with its Season 2 premiere later this month.

The Raising Kanan cast also features MeKai Curtis (as Kanan, the character portrayed by 50 Cent in the original Power series), Omar Epps, Malcolm Mays, London Brown, Joey Badass, Hailey Kilgore, and more. We last saw the Raising Kanan team assembled for the Season 1 closer “Paid in Full,” directed by Rob Hardy.

At the onset of Season 2, Raq has taken control of the city’s drug game, while Kanan is back in Queens but not sure about his commitment to the family and its dangerous business.

All told, the extended Power universe now counts three currently-in-progress spinoffs to its name. In addition to Power Book III: Raising Kanan, fans of Courtney A. Kemp and 50 Cent’s franchise have also been given Power Book II: Ghost (which premiered in 2020) and Power Book IV: Force (which premiered earlier this year).

Below, revisit the recently released Season 2 trailer for Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The series returns on Aug. 14 via Starz.
