The Man Without Fear is returning to the small screen.
According to Variety, Disney+ is developing a Daredevil TV series written and produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord—the the co-creators of Covert Affairs. Though Marvel Studios has yet to formally announce the show, the move has been widely anticipated in the wake of Daredevil characters making cameos in other MCU projects. Charlie Cox, who played Daredevil/Matt Murdock in the Netflix series, made an appearance in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home; while Vincent D’Onofrio simultaneously reprised his role as Kingpin/Wilson Fisk in Disney+’s Hawkeye.
Netflix pulled the plug on the original Daredevil series after three seasons in 2018. Variety reports the streaming giant’s contract included a clause that prohibited any Marvel-Netflix characters from appearing in projects by other studios. Under the agreement, Marvel could revive such characters two years after the Netflix series were canceled.
There’s currently no information on casting; however, MCU boss Kevin Feige previously stated Cox would portray Daredevil in future projects.
“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil,” Feige said in late 2021. “Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
Daredevil/Murdock, who was played by Ben Affleck in the 2003 film, is a blind man leading a double life in NYC—working as an attorney by day, and fighting crime as a masked vigilante by night. Some fans suspect Cox’s Daredevil will appear in the upcoming She-Hulk series starring Tatiana Maslany as the titular super-lawyer. A Daredevil/Murdock cameo wouldn’t be too far-fetched, as the Disney+ show will follow She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters as she takes on “superhuman-oriented legal cases.”
