DC fans were given a taste of what to expect in the months and years ahead, cinematically speaking, with a special announcement on Tuesday.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn and Peter Safran have quite a bit on the horizon, including The Batman Part II (with Robert Pattinson) on Oct. 3, 2025 and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, based on Tom King’s comic book series from 2022.
Elsewhere on the lineup is Gunn’s Superman: Legacy (set for July 11, 2025), a Creature Commandos animated series, a Peacemaker spinoff series titled Waller (featuring Viola Davis), a Lanterns series, a The Authority film, a Paradise Lost series (set before the events of the Wonder Woman movies), a Batman and Damian Wayne (a.k.a. Robin)-focused film titled The Brave and the Bold (without Pattinson), a Booster Gold series, and a Swamp Thing movie.

Some of the most exciting news announced includes the aforementioned Paradise Lost, which will be a live-action look at Themyscira, the home of the Amazons. The show, which was compared to to Game of Thrones, will take place before the birth of Wonder Woman.
Gunn also set the bar high for the upcoming The Flash, calling it “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.” Safran also addressed Ezra Miller’s future with DC. “When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery,” he said of Miller’s recent struggles.
Gunn also confirmed that Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, the upcoming Joker sequel, and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman movie will fall under a a banner called DC Elseworlds, meaning they won’t be connected to Gunn’s DCU. Instead, Gunn will cast an entirely new Batman for his The Brave and the Bold movie.
The unveiling follows last October’s announcement that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be co-leading the newly launched DC Studios brand. In a joint statement that month, the two assured fans they were committed to DC’s extended roster of beloved characters. “We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told,” Gunn and Safran said at the time.
In the months since, a slew of developments in the larger DC space have spurred comments from Gunn. Just this month, for example, the writer and director gave fans an update on his plans for a new Superman actor. Per a tweet shared in response to a fan’s suggestion that Euphoria alum Jacob Elordi should take on the character, Gunn cautioned that no such decision will be made until he’s “finished or close to finished” with the script.
More recently, Gunn pointed out his and Safran’s awareness that a “period of turbulence” would follow their appointments at DC Studios.
“Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story [and] best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years,” he said in an Instagram note shared in December.
