The Idol, which is now set to arrive via HBO next year, received a new teaser on Thursday.

Up top, catch the latest glimpse at the new drama, which stars The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp. The series focuses on a modern-day cult leader’s relationship with a pop star and was created by Abel himself, Reza Fahim, and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson.

Idol was said to be moving in a “new creative direction” back in April, with Deadline reporting at the time that a behind-the-scenes overhaul had occurred including the exit of originally announced director Amy Seimetz.

When first announcing a series order for Idol, Francesca Orsi—HBO’s Executive VP of Programming—described the initial pitch for the project as “unlikely anything HBO had ever done before.”

Joining others on the production company roster behind the hotly anticipated project is A24, whose 2022 has also included breakout critical and commercial successes including Everything Everywhere All at Once and X. Abel and Lily-Rose are joined in the extended cast by Troye Sivan, Rachel Sennott (who last appeared in A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies), Hari Nef, Suzanna Son, Moses Sumney, and more.

In August, Abel gave fans some new music in the form of a Summer Walker-featuring remix of the Dawn FM cut “Best Friends.” The Weeknd has also has two Los Angeles dates left before wrapping up the first leg of the U.S. and Canada portion of his After Hours Til Dawn tour.
