Sonic fans can take solace in the fact that the revered Sega character will once again be making a theatrical journey in April, complete with the returning voice talent of Ben Schwartz.

Ahead of next month’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 release, Paramount has released a final trailer for the sequel, which—like its 2020 predecessor—is directed by Jeff Fowler. In a shrewd bit of marketing, this past weekend also saw the release of the “Sonic cut” of the new trailer, i.e. a too-fast-to-take-in version shared by Schwartz and others that notably included a few quickly displayed surprises.

Today the sonic cut… tomorrow A BRAND NEW TRAILER!!! Also if you scroll slowly, there’s a frame in here where I’m wearing 🔥 on my feet. #SonicMovie2

Schwartz’s fellow returning cast members include Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik), Colleen O’Shaughnessey (as Tails), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), Tika Sumpter (as Maddie Wachowski), and more. New to the crew is Idris Elba, who voices Knuckles.

In February, Deadline reported that Paramount had put in motion plans for a third Sonic the Hedgehog film, as well as a spinoff series focused on Knuckles. The latter is currently slated to arrive via the Paramount+ streaming service next year, with Elba confirmed to be returning to the role.

As Fowler himself previously touted, Elba has “absolutely nailed it” in terms of his take on Knuckles, whom the director describes as a “force of nature” that’s initially too much for Sonic to handle. “[Elba is] such a great guy,” Fowler said last December, per Polygon. “He really wants to get the character right.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opens April 8. Catch the new (and final) trailer up top.
