An all-new version of the 1989 film Pet Sematary is now coming to theaters a bit earlier than expected. Originally slated for mid-April next year, it's now been bumped up to April 5, 2019.
In addition to Pet Sematary, fans of Stephen King will also get to see Doctor Sleep, an adaptation of the 2013 novel sequel to 1980's The Shining, on the newly announced date of Jan. 24, 2020. Mike Flanagan will direct, which makes sense after bringing King's '92 novel Gerald's Game last fall.
Pet Sematary follows a family who come across a supernatural Maine graveyard where buried animals come malevolently back to life. After the death of a child, the father buries him there in hopes of a similar outcome. In typical horror story fashion, it doesn't quite go as planned.
"I will say this, if you love the book, you’ll love this movie," screenwriter Jeff Buhler told Dread Central, teasing it as possibly the scariest Stephen King adaption yet. "As a father of a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, I really connected to this story of grief and loss and what it could do to a family in a different way, in that, how far would a parent go to return to their life prior to a tragic event?"
