‘House of Cards’ to Reportedly Resume Shooting Final Season After Extended Hiatus

It was announced Sunday that the Netflix drama House of Cards will resume production on its sixth and final season after an extended hiatus. The announcement came via a letter directly from Media Rights Capital Senior Vice President of Television Business and Legal Affairs Pauline Micelli.

Netflix publicly announced ending its partnership with House of Cards actor Kevin Spacey after he was the latest of several high-profile celebrities and executives to face multiple allegations of sexual assault. The streaming giant released a statement saying it would “not be involved in any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey.”

After Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of sexual assault in an October report for Buzzfeed News, multiple other men—including House of Cards staffers—came forward with similar allegations.

A copy of the letter obtained by Deadline indicates the House of Cards crew will be compensated for an additional two-week hiatus from November 27 through December 8. Production would presumably resume then, although it’s unclear what will happen to Spacey’s Francis Underwood character.

“These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen,” Micelli wrote. “The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crews in this business.”
