The Four ‘Avatar’ Sequels Now Have Official Release Dates

After an indefinite delay of the four 'Avatar' sequels, Fox produced receipts in the forms official dates and photos the production crew.

The 2009 film Avatar earned $2.8 billion worldwide, making it one of the top-grossing films of all time. As previously reported, that commercial clout led to not only one but four scheduled sequels. The official scheduled release dates presumably provide necessary time and freedom from what Cameron previously referred to as “limitations for our art form.”

“Great to be working with the best team in the business!” read a statement posted to the official Avatar Facebook page Saturday. “Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels. The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025!”

Not everyone was thrilled by the announcement.

In terms of public reception, Avatar currently maintains an 83 score on Metacritic and a similar audience score of 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

It would appear the fourth time is the charm when it comes to the announcement of the Avatar sequels, but at least Fox produced receipts in the form of showing the production crew this time around.
