Winter is coming! But before that arrives, of course, is the fall, and with that comes the return of a number of your favorite TV shows. Two of Marvel’s heavy hitters (Daredevil and Iron Fist) will be popping up on Netflix soon, while everything from American Horror Story and BoJack Horseman to Riverdale and The Good Place will also be back for new seasons. That doesn’t mean the only good TV is returning series, though; there are some dope new shows on the upcoming fall TV schedule that have the potential to make your personal list of favs.
Whether it’s a hilarious comedian bringing you a fictionalized version of his life or following the lives of a motorcycle club, there's a little something for everyone coming this fall. There’s also a lot of hot garbage out there, but don’t worry; we’re here to make sure you choose what to watch wisely. Here are our picks from the fall TV lineup for all the new series worth making time to dive into.
Mayans M.C.

Stars: J.D. Pardo, Edward James Olmos, Jacqueline Obradors
Network: FX
Premiered: September 4, 10PM
For those of you still suffering from Sons of Anarchy withdrawal, FX’s new series, Mayans M.C. is the fix you’ve been waiting for. Taking place two-and-a-half years after the events of Sons (which aired its series finale in December of 2014), Mayans focuses on the Mayans Motorcycle Club, which were the one-time enemies of the Reapers from Sons. While the series is focused on J.D. Pardo’s character Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, many might be tuning in to see Edward James Olmos act circles around the cast.
The Purge

Stars: Gabriel Chavarria, Lili Simmons, Lee Tergesen
Network: USA
Premiered: September 4, 10PM
Did you watch all four Purge films but are in need of MORE ultraviolence release? Then USA Network has just the series for you. The Purge is a 10-part television event that chronicles the lives of multiple people during one 12-hour Purge Night. It’s dope to see Lee Tergesen (best known as Tobias from HBO’s Oz), Amanda Warren (who fans of The Leftovers should remember as Mayor Lucy Warburton) and William Baldwin being a part of this cast, but the question is: Who’s making it out alive?
REL

Stars: Lil Rel Howery, Sinbad, Jessica Moore
Network: Fox
Premiere Date: September 9, after NFL on Fox
After his scene-stealing performance in Get Out, Lil Rel Howery was in high in-demand. And while being featured in other films (Tag, Uncle Drew) and TV shows (The Carmichael Show, Insecure), 2018 finds Howery starring in his own semi-autobiographical series. Taking place on the West Side of Chicago, REL should deliver a heavy dose of funny. That’s not just because Jerrod Carmichael is serving as the series’ executive producer, but because comedy greats from the past (Sinbad) and future (Jessica Moore, better known online as Jess Hilarious) round out this cast.
Kidding

Stars: Jim Carrey, Catherine Keener, Frank Langella, Judy Greer
Network: Showtime
Premiere Date: September 9, 10PM
Showtime probably had many people hooked just at the mention of Jim Carrey. In Kidding, the veteran funnyman stars as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, a huge star on children’s television, who might seem a bit lost as an adult. So when his home life starts to break down, he’s sent spiraling. This should be an interesting half-hour comedy-drama series and seems perfect for an actor like Carrey.
Maniac

Stars: Jonah Hill, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Justin Theroux
Network: Netflix
Premiere Date: September 21, streaming on-demand
One of the most talked-about new series to hit this fall is the Cary Fukanaga-directed Maniac, which stars Jonah Hill and Emma Stone as patients involved in a mysterious drug trial. You wouldn’t be wrong if you caught Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind vibes from the trailer. But with the iconic Sally Field and Leftovers star Justin Theroux rounding out the cast, this will be one series that fans of indie films should gravitate towards.
FBI

Stars: Missy Peregrym, Jeremy Sisto, Zeeko Zaki, Ebonée Noel
Network: CBS
Premiere Date: September 25, 9PM
In what will be Dick Wolf’s first drama series to not air on NBC in 15 years, FBI should be a treat for fans of his numerous Law & Order shows. FBI was actually set to be a spin-off of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but while that isn’t the case, this will still take place in New York City, and will highlight one particular FBI agent. Don’t sleep; this could be your weekly dose of primetime crime.
Single Parents

Stars: Taran Killam, Leighton Meester
Network: ABC
Premiere Date: September 26, 9:30PM
For fans of Taran Killam’s Saturday Night Live run who have been wondering when he’d be regularly on your television screens once again, his latest ABC series is coming in October. Killam stars as Will, a single-father of a daughter who joins a group of single parents who are trying to find that balance between being a parent and being a person.
I Feel Bad

Stars: Sarayu Blue, Paul Adelstein
Network: NBC
Premiere Date: October 4, 9:30PM
While her name might not be memorable; fans of 2018 comedy hit Blockers should know Sarayu Blue’s face (she played the wife of John Cena in the film). I Feel Bad finds Blue starring as Emet, an everywoman who “feels bad” whenever she can’t properly juggle her life as a mother, wife, and career woman. We’re just here for Blue making us laugh, truth be told.
Into the Dark

Titans

Stars: Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter
Network: DC Universe
Premiere Date: October 12, streaming on-demand
With DC officially announcing that their DC Universe streaming service would be launching on Batman Day (aka September 15), they also announced that the long-awaited live-action Titans series would be hitting the service in October. Based on the ever-popular, Robin-led Teen Titans squad, this series has been in development since 2014, and based on the trailer that dropped during San Diego Comic-Con, this feels like it'll be one of the darker DC projects to hit in recent memory.
Charmed

Stars: Sarah Jeffery, Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock
Network: The CW
Premiere Date: October 14, 9PM
After the memorable CW series ended its eight-episode run in May of 2006, it was surprising to hear that The CW was planning on rebooting Charmed. It was even doper to see that The Charmed Ones would no longer be white women, with this series bringing in the likes of Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station, The Belko Experiment), Sarah Jeffery (Shades of Blue), and Madeleine Mantock (The Tomorrow People, Into the Badlands) as the trio of powerful witches who just discovered who they really are.
The Conners

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

The Fix

Stars: Robin Tunney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
Network: ABC
Premiere Date: TBA
Tunney (The Craft) and Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost, Oz, Suicide Squad) are two names who always excite, so having them both on one series has our interest piqued. The series, which is a legal drama that was written (in part) by Marcia Clark (yes, THAT Marcia Clark), follows Tunney’s character, who is a lawyer that can’t put an A-list actor away for murder. Years later, she’s drawn back into this person’s life, as they are once again up for murder.
The Passage

Stars: Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Vincent Piazza, Brianne Howey
Network: Fox
Premiere Date: TBA
The fast-paced drama is based on a novel of the same name, where humans are trying to find a way to stop a highly-contagious virus from wiping out all of civilization. One little girl holds the key to stopping the death, but it looks like the cost of that could be deadly in itself, which leads Gosselaar (Saved By the Bell) to save the day.
