Reason to rejoice, Star Wars fans may have. The New York Daily News is reporting that there are plans to bring back Yoda in Episode IX. "Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey's success and growth as a Jedi," an insider told the Daily News. "The scenes are due to be put together later this year."

Since the J.J. Abrams-helmed project is still in its early stages, it's important to note that even the best-laid plans are not set in stone. However, an additional appearance by Yoda, and even more positive feedback could potentially pave the way for that long-rumored spin-off.

Last year, Lucasfilm and Disney announced plans for a standalone film centered around Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the Hollywood Reporter article confirming the news, there's a brief mention about projects solely dedicated to Yoda and Boba Fett being considered as well. In the past, Frank Oz, the man who voices the 900-year old Jedi Master, has been coy about providing insight for fans about future projects involving the beloved Star Wars character.

In an interview on the director's cut of Little Shop of Horrors, Oz appeared to tip his hand a bit before casting doubt once again on a Yoda standalone film. "Yeah, he is going to. He is going to. He's going to be a chorus girl," he said. "He's changing sex. He will become, he won't kick that high, I think he's a little too old for the extensions, but he's going to do his best."

Production for Episode IX is set to begin in July.
