Sunny Hostin, one of the hosts on The View, has revealed a scary moment.
It involved an allergen.
Hostin said on a show broadcast that she “almost died," according to a video shared on YouTube on June 20 by The View.
According to the video, Hostin revealed that she had come into "contact with an allergen live on air during a food segment" with Debbie Matenopoulos earlier in that week.
“She has this wonderful food, Greek food,” Hostin said on the show. “And I have a terrible allergy to walnuts, and as I'm eating the food, Alyssa (Farah Griffin) asks, ‘Um, are those walnuts in here?’ And she says yes. So I panic immediately, and I write a death note to Alyssa, which basically says I am allergic to walnuts.”
“She responds, ‘Oh no,’” Hostin said. “I'm looking at (the executive producer) Brian, and he's like, ‘Is everything OK?’ No, it's not.”
She said that the nurses came in and immediately tested her. "I was scared," she added.
Hostin added that she "panicked" and revealed that Griffin was "great in the moment."
"This hasn't happened to me in 10 years," Hostin said, but she clearly recovered from the scare because she was laughing and joking about it on the show.
Walnut allergies can be dangerous and even life-threatening in some cases.
"An allergy to tree nuts is one of the most common food allergies. Along with peanuts and shellfish, it is also one of the food allergens most frequently linked to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening reaction that impairs breathing and can send the body into shock," the American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology wrote.
