Instead of going to a plastic surgeon, Sydney Sweeney has "good jeans" to count on.
The star of the upcoming sports biopic Christy, who has called out body-shamers before, spoke to Variety in a new cover story about her decision to not go under the knife. To portray former professional women's boxer Christy Martin, Sweeney had to gain 30 pounds. Now, online haters are accusing her of getting cosmetic surgery..
"I’ve never gotten anything done. I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully," Sweeney told the publication.
"It’s really funny. I’ll see things online like 'comparison pictures.' I’m like, ‘I’m 12 in that photo. Of course I’m going to look different. I have makeup on now and I’m 15 years older,'" she continued.
Elsewhere in the article, Sydney explained she plays "divisive characters" instead of falling into the public's perception of being a "sex symbol."
"[eople think, ‘Ah, she’s a sex symbol,’ or ‘She’s leaning into that,’ I’m like, ‘No, I just feel good and I’m doing it for myself and I feel strong,'" she said. "And I hope that I can inspire other women to be confident and just flaunt what they got and feel good because you shouldn’t have to apologize or hide or cover up in any room."
Sweeney's confidence was on full display in her controversial 'Great Jeans' campaign for American Eagle, which the clothing brand refused to apologize for despite its alleged eugenics undertone.
"'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story," AE said in defense of the advertisement in August. "We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone."
