Guillermo Del Toro has zero interest in using artificial intelligence in his films.

The Frankenstein director recently spoke to NPR about the growing generative AI trend in Hollywood projects and compared it to the "arrogance" of the titular character in his new Netflix film.

"My concern is not artificial intelligence, but natural stupidity. I think that's what drives most of the world's worst features," said Del Toro, who added that he wanted Victor Frankenstein (Issac) to have "arrogance" similar to "tech bros."

Del Toro added that the mad scientist is "blind" and creates "without considering the consequences." The director thinks that the industry should now "take a pause and consider where we're going." The director went on to say he wasn't interested in generative AI in particular, adding he hopes he remain uninterested.

"The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, 'What is your stance on AI?' And my answer was very short. I said, 'I'd rather die,'" Del Toro concluded.

The director's stance opposes other filmmakers like Tyler Perry, who's praised text-to-video AI platform Sora, which has been bashed for replicating the likeness of deceased celebrities.

Another director who's advocated for AI's use is Michael Mann, who told Deadline that he's considering AI for "aging and de-aging" in the upcoming Heat sequel.

Frankenstein stars Oscar Issac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth and premieres on Netflix on November 7.
