Last Monday, Star Wars dropped a trailer (and started selling tickets) for The Rise of Skywalker. This Monday they opted to hype their Disney+ series The Mandalorian with...ah, also a trailer. See it above.
The live-action Star Wars series is set to kick off on the new Disney streaming service starting on November 12. Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Carl Weathers, and Werner Herzog are all set to fill roles on the show.
As we wrote back in August, the series will take place "after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order," which no doubt elicited a "no shit" from Star Wars diehards. The description of the series continued by stating that it will "follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."
As for the episode schedule, that has also been made publicly available. What you're getting is two episodes in that first week, followed by a show per week with a slight tweak to make room for Rise of Skywalker's December 20 release in theaters. More specifically, that'll be:
- Episode 1 – Nov. 12
- Episode 2 – Nov. 15
- Episode 3 – Nov. 22
- Episode 4 – Nov. 29
- Episode 5 – Dec. 6
- Episode 6 – Dec. 13
- Episode 7 – Dec. 18
- Episode 8 – Dec. 27
As for further description, showrunner Jon Favreau said that “It’s like after the Roman Empire falls, or when you don’t have a centralized shogun in Japan—and, of course, the Old West, when there wasn’t any government in the areas that had not yet been settled.”
As Entertainment Weekly described it back in early September, the show's "clearest inspiration is the first act of A New Hope, which played like a Western set in space." They added that it's also "perhaps the furthest from the Star Wars prequels and the aristocratic poshness of their Jedi council meetings on Coruscant." So hopefully that makes sense. But, even if it's still a little unclear, just give it a few more weeks. November 12 isn't far.
