UPDATED 4/5, 8:45 p.m. ET: Todd Phillips finished filming Joker: Folie à Deux and celebrated by posting a new Gaga pic and a new Joaquin image.

“That’s a wrap,” the director wrote in an Instagram caption. “Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together.”

With production well underway on Todd Phillips’ sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga has been spotted in costume as Harley Quinn in New York City.

The 36-year-old singer and actress was seen at Manhattan’s City Hall this week filming scenes for the highly-anticipated sequel, which will also see the return of Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role. Surrounded by hundreds of extras, she sported clown makeup and a top featuring the character’s iconic harlequin print. Since it was filmed outside of city hall as a possible stand-in for a courthouse, it would appear as though the scene hints at the aftermath of Joker’s violent conclusion.

Director-writer Todd Phillips shared the first look at Gaga as Quinn in the sequel to the 2019 megahit last month, although the close-up shot showed the character without her clown makeup. Shooting for the project began last year in December, and Phillips offered a preview of what’s to come for Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck. Gaga and the Oscar-winning Phoenix will be joined in the film by Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz in a return of her character from the original.

The upcoming Joker sequel has some big shoes to fill. The movie, which was produced on a relatively conservative budget of $70 million, went on to become the only R-rated movie to gross over $1 billion worldwide. It also garnered 11 Academy Awards nominations, including one win with Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix.

Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
