A24 has shared the trailer for C’mon C’mon, which stars Joaquin Phoenix in his first feature film role since he won an Oscar for his performance in 2019’s Joker.

Directed by Mike Mills, who previously helmed 20th Century Women and BeginnersC’mon C’mon tells the story of a man played by Phoenix who is left to take care of his young nephew, played by child actor Woody Norman in his first feature film role. With a stark, black-and-white aesthetic, the trailer promises a touching story of an uncle and nephew who form a strong bond during their time together.

Also starring in the film are Gaby Hoffman, Scoot McNairy, and comedian Jaboukie Young-White.

Two years ago, Phoenix’s Todd Phillips-directed Joker came out and smashed box office records for an R-rated film. C’mon C’mon looks to be a very different role for the acclaimed actor, who has another three Oscar nominations on his résumé. It’s not the only project he has on the way, though, as he’s also set to star in the next film from Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster, Disappointment Blvd. The stacked cast for that project also boasts Michael Gandolfini, the star of the upcoming Sopranos prequel film The Saints of Newark.

Watch the trailer for C’mon C’mon above. It’s eyeing a November theatrical release.
